Refugee Displacement

Josh Hernandez

In the world today there are 79.5 million people that have been forcibly displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or events seriously disturbing public order. There are also fast-growing numbers of people who can no longer gain a secure livelihood in their homelands because of drought, soil erosion, desertification, deforestation and other environmental problems. Of these 79.5 million around 35 million are children. Currently developing countries host 85% of all refugees and displaced people.

It is important as a country with our rights, freedom, and abundance to help those who are in need that need to escape the destruction and death of war and persecution. This is not a simple task and requires resources and time from those willing to offer. What do you value more than human life? What would you do in a situation similar to them?
